Hey Barry,

Wow, that's a tough one. I have no experience in this area, but I have a couple ideas of where I would start. Try using a guitar that has multiple pickups, maybe even a piezo acoustic pickup, to help thicken up your tone. Active pickups might also be worth trying. You might even want to add a mild overdrive to your setup to make it easier to articulate the notes. You should be able to make the pickups hotter without overdriving too much. Go for something that can emulate tube overdrive so it sounds natural if it does start to break up.

Good luck!

Hi Kenny,

Thank you for the wonderful article and video clip.

I have a right hand injury and can only play by hammering on and pulling off with my left hand. It works well on the bass and I am thinking of translating it to the six string guitar. I love that full jazz sound and though I know my tone is rather limited by only "tapping" or hammering on and pulling off, I wonder if you could offer some advise about what kind of guitar might be best for my "one hand technique". Heavy strings don't bother my left hand at all as I used DR "Low RIders" on my bass guitar. My right hand cannot be used anymore at all due to a combination of focal dystonia and some tendon damage.

Thanks in advance.
